cultivating creative practice.

diego & frida multi media collage csw 1.18.2022

this project fell in my lap. always curious about my creative process i have started to write about who inspires me and how i have come to realize myself as an artist. it is not a mistake that frida is the first in this collection, her vibrant life in the face of disaster and resistance continues to fuel me.

this year i am working on finishing things i have started. wether a book that’s been sitting on my bedside table for ages, or categorizing and organizing travel photos from years of neglect. last year i recycled my years long collection of magazines. before they all went in the bin i tore through them, pulling color and texture for future collage projects. so here comes 2022 and my idea to finish what i start and use up what i have; and i have folders and folders of collage materials. so i started to collage one snowy saturday and this project, honoring artistic icons who have inspired my creative imagination followed. as the collages are finished i plan to post a photo and then write a few words in their honor.

like i said i am working with materials i already have so i am not planning this project to be exhaustive of those that have piqued my curiosity.
